Ralph's Bay

On Hobart's Eastern Shore, Ralph's Bay is a good place to go bird-watching.

Royal Botanic Gardens

The Hobart Botanic Gardens are one of my favourite places to visit in the city. There is a pretty decent restaurant/cafe there where you can have a drink or a bite and enjoy the glorious view.

My favourite place in the gardens is Pete's Patch -the marvelous fruit and vegie garden that Peter Cundall has developed there for Gardening Australia.

D'Entrecasteaux Channel

This beautiful stretch of water lies between the mainland of Tasmania and Bruny Island. I took these photos from the side of the road - somewhere between Verona Sands and Gordon.

Ice

On the Channel Highway at 10.30am on a winter morning, there was quite a bit of ice on the road.

Penitentiary Chapel

One of Hobart's many historic sites, the Penitentiary Chapel was built in the 1830s. The chapel is located on the corner of Brisbane and Campbell Streets and it is just a short walk there from the city centre.
Standing in the carpark outside Officeworks, this is the view to Mt Wellington, with the chapel on the left.

Taroona Beach

The entry to Taroona Park.

Taroona is one of Hobart's southern suburbs. The beach has a walking path alongside it and at low tide you can walk on the sand too.

Hobart Waterfront

The waterfront on a winter day. The big orange-red ship is the Aurora Australis - an Antarctic supply ship that docks in Hobart over the winter.
